Shining a light on John H. Anglin Scholarship Recipient
Molly Kissling
The John H. Anglin Scholarship program awards ten $1000 scholarships annually to KREMC members and/or their dependents who are pursuing higher education. We are pleased to introduce some of these outstanding students to you. Their accomplishments to date are inspiring and their futures are extraordinarily bright.
This week, we spoke with 2024 scholarship recipient Molly Kissling.
KREMC: Please tell us a little bit about yourself.
My name is Molly Kissling, and I am from Warsaw, Indiana. I graduated from WCHS and will be attending Butler University in the fall to study Marketing and Finance. In my free time, I enjoy boating, listening to music, going on walks, and hanging out with my family and friends. Throughout high school I enjoyed volunteering in the community such as tutoring fellow students, working blood drives, volunteering at my church (Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church), and a variety of other ways. In high school, I was also very involved in things like BPA, FCCLA, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, NHS, and Cross Country, and I can't wait to find new ways to get involved at Butler.
KREMC: What inspired you to pursue higher education, and how do you envision it contributing to your future goals?
From a pretty young age, I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in Business, and I also knew I wanted to probably do something corporate. With these aspirations, college seemed pretty necessary. Butler does a great job of helping students network and meet people who can help them in their future while also giving them unmatched experiences, so I think this along with my hard work and determination will help me to achieve my career goals.
KREMC: Can you share some details about the field of study you've chosen and why it resonates with you?
Marketing has always been something I've been into even if it was before I even knew what Marketing was. From my first lemonade stand to my first fundraiser, it was clear that my brain worked well for Business. As this became clear to me, after thinking back to wanting to make posters and let everyone know on my mom's Facebook page what I was doing because I knew I needed to promote these things for success. Through taking Marketing classes in high school, I fell more in love with Marketing and it helped to solidify why I wanted to go into that field. The other field I want to pursue is Finance. This was not something I realized I wanted to go into until more recently. While I was trying to take as many Business classes as possible, I took two Accounting classes. I really enjoyed these classes, but I knew Accounting wasn't a field I wanted to pursue as a career. While talking to my Accounting teacher, I figured out what I liked about Accounting was more Finance aspects, so I went home and researched what a career in Finance would look like. This piqued my interests, but I didn't want to not also try out Marketing. This led to my decision to double major in Marketing and Finance.
KREMC: Have you been involved in any notable extracurricular activities, volunteer work, or leadership roles that have shaped your character and skills?
This year, I had the opportunity to be the Vice President for Indiana BPA. This experience helped to grow me as a leader and work with a team to achieve our goals. Through what I learned during this experience, I was able to learn more about BPA and make changes to the Warsaw BPA chapter which helped us to win every chapter award at State and get Nationally recognized with three awards. This experience overall helped me learn a wide variety of skills which will help me in my future endeavours.
KREMC: Are there any professors, mentors, or role models who have had a significant impact on your academic and personal development?
My family and my teachers have all helped me to push myself to be my best self and find what truly makes me happy. Each of these people have inspired not only what I want to be when I grow up but also who I want to be, and they have helped to support me.
KREMC: How do you plan to give back to your community or make a positive difference in society once you've completed your higher education?
I plan to use my knowledge and experience that I will gain at college to volunteer in multiple ways when I am older. I have already done a lot of volunteering, and I can't wait to get to do this further when I graduate college and make a meaningful difference on other's lives.
KREMC: Are there any specific research projects, internships, or study abroad opportunities you're looking forward to pursuing during your academic journey?
Through Butler’s emphasis on experiential learning, I will be completing two required internships while in college. I am very excited to see what types of internships I will be doing including possibly doing the Leadership in London program where I could intern in London and learn more about business overseas.
KREMC: Can you share a significant academic achievement or project that you're particularly proud of and the skills it helped you develop?
I am proud of keeping a 4.0 unweighted GPA throughout my 4 years in high school. While juggling a hard class load, multiple clubs, sports, and everything else in life, it is hard to give enough focus to school to achieve this, but I was driven to achieve this goal of mine.
KREMC: Finally, what does receiving this scholarship mean to you, and how will it support your educational endeavors?
This scholarship means so much to me, and it shows how my community is willing to support kids in our community and their futures. This scholarship along with other generous community scholarships will allow me to thrive at college without needing to worry about the financial side of it.
