Meet our Scholarship Recipients

Concern for Community is one of KREMC’s core principles, and investing in the youth in our community is one way we show this. Every year, Kosciusko REMC awards two different scholarships, the 4-H Scholarship and the John H. Anglin Scholarship. The 4-H Scholarship is a $350 scholarship awarded to 10 students to assist with their 4-H projects. The John H. Anglin Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship awarded to 10 students’ chosen institution of higher education for the upcoming school year. Read on to meet some of the brilliant students who have received these scholarships.

John H. Anglin Scholarship Recipients

Natalie Linnemeier

Natalie is a senior attending the University of Saint Francis. She is in the educational program with plans to teach middle school English or math after graduation.

“I have always loved making a difference in kids’ lives and what better place to do so than in the classroom.” She explained. Currently, she is working as a substitute teacher. In her free time, she coaches middle school basketball and high school girls flag football. In addition to this, she gives piano and guitar lessons every Tuesday. With FAFSA cuts this year, she wasn’t sure what paying for tuition would look like, however, this scholarship helped with this concern.

“It helps lessen the financial burden that college tuition has and allows me to focus more on my schoolwork rather than how to come up with the additional money for tuition.” She stated. She looks forward to graduating in May and hopes to get a job at a middle school in the area. Eventually, she wants to go to grad school for a masters in administration with hopes of one day becoming a principal.

“All around, I hope to continue to touch the lives of students or athletes that I have the privilege to be around.” She concluded.

McKale Hagg

McKale is a sophomore attending Johnson University in Knoxville, Tennessee. He is ambitiously pursuing three majors, Bible and Theology, Ministry Leadership, and Accounting. So far, he has had two internships, one at First Christian Church of Warsaw, and the other at Dynamic Church in Silver Lake. On top of this, he has volunteered at the local homeless shelter and played the drums on the student led worship band.

“These opportunities have helped me to put my classroom training into practice and has given me some real-world experience.” He said. These real world experiences and opportunities he has had as part of his education were made possible by the John H. Anglin Scholarship.

“I am able to more fully concentrate on my studies without the need of having to worry as much about the financial impact of college. This also frees up more of my time so I can engage in volunteer activities.”

After graduation, he looks forward to moving back to Warsaw and becoming a lead pastor at a church while possibly doing something part time in the accounting field.

“I hope to give back to the community that has blessed me and be a part of helping others live out their faith.” He finished.

4-H Scholarship Recipients

Olivia Parker

Oliva is in 6th grade and attends Tippecanoe Valley Middle School. She has been apart of 4-H for 3 years and loves animals so much she wants to make a career out of it. One of her favorite experiences in 4-H so far has been winning the Dairy Calf Feed Street Beginner Showman this year. The 4-H Scholarship made this possible by allowing her to buy important supplies she needed, such as new clippers, halters, and feed for her animals.

“I learned that hard work is the key to success!” Olivia Parker said, when asked what she had learned through 4-H. Clearly, Olivia has learned important lessons that she will carry into adulthood through this program.

Owen Backus

Owen is a 6th grader at Tippecanoe Valley Middle School, who has been participating in 4-H for 3 years and is a member of the Henery Hardy Farmers 4-H club. He has been involved in a variety of 4-H projects over the years, including electric, farm toy scene, and swine.

This year he was able to show 5 pigs at the Fulton County Fair.

“I really enjoy working with my swine and forming a bond with each of my animals.” Owen explained.

After learning about the 4-H scholarship program through KREMC’s magazine, Indiana Connection, Owen applied to help cover the cost of feeding his pigs.

“I have learned time management from doing this 4-H project. Swine is a big commitment and without time management, I wouldn't be able to do other things that I enjoy.” Owen said, when asked what lessons he has learned through 4-H. As shown, 4-H builds valuable skills such as time management and commitment.
