Operation Round Up Impact – Kosciusko YMCA

Learn more about KREMC’s Operation Round Up Program, and the organizations it benefits, like Kosciusko YMCA. Concern for community is one of KREMC’s core principles, and Operation Round Up is one way we give back to our local community.

What is the Kosciusko YMCA?

The Kosciusko Community YMCA is all about bringing people together and strengthening our community. It is not just a gym. It is a place where families, kids, and individuals of all ages can find programs that help them grow in spirit, mind, and body. Between our three locations in Parkview Warsaw, Downtown Warsaw, and North Webster, we offer everything from childcare and youth sports to fitness classes, swim lessons, and community events. Our goal is to make sure everyone, no matter their age or ability, feels welcome and has a place to belong.

What is the organization’s mission?

To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

What are the biggest programs you offer?

Some of our biggest programs focus on youth development and healthy living. For kids, that means swim lessons, youth sports leagues, gymnastics, and summer camps where they can learn new skills and build confidence. For adults, we offer group fitness classes, personal training, and programs designed to help people manage their health. We also provide before and after school care and childcare for working parents.

What is the history behind this organization?

The history of the YMCA here in Kosciusko County goes back to 1962 when a group of community members saw the need for a place that could support local families. The first building opened on Smith Street in 1965, and over the years the Y grew through several expansions. In 2014, we opened our Parkview Warsaw YMCA, a beautiful 70,000 square foot facility that allowed us to expand our programs and reach even more people. It is amazing to look back and see how much the Y has grown, all because of community support and the belief that we are better when we come together.

What impact is Kosciusko YMCA having on the community?

The Y continues to make a difference in people’s lives by reaching thousands of individuals and families through meaningful programs each year. With more than $200,000 provided annually in financial assistance, we ensure that every person has the opportunity to participate in transformative YMCA experiences regardless of their financial situation. From teaching children to swim and giving teens a safe place to grow, to helping adults build healthier lifestyles, the Y empowers people of all ages to thrive. Through strong partnerships with local nonprofits, we extend our reach even further, serving our community with compassion and purpose.

Do you have any success stories or testimonies you can share?

Ryan and Teresa

Just so appreciative of all the inclusive and special needs programs you offer. This has been and is such a huge blessing to families with special needs teens and adult children. Please keep up the good work!

Leann

Growing up I have always had problems with my weight. After having my daughter I hit 306 lbs. Through my weight loss journey, they have asked if I wanted to take a new picture for my account and I always say no because it’s my motivation to keep going and not go back to the old me before I joined the YMCA.

Laura

My special needs son has attended summer camp for the past three summers. I appreciate the camp’s ability to keep him occupied with good activities and being able to adjust to his needs and make sure he is included. I don’t know what I would do without the YMCA and its summer camp!

Patrick

Being a one-income, full-time ministry family, it just didn’t seem possible for us to join. Our membership has been a lifesaver for our family. Not only have we been meeting our healthy goals—healthier in body, mind, and as a family—but we have also grown closer as a family.

Sandra

Thank you to all who make this help possible and for my kids being able to stay safe and active. It has been amazing for me to have kids in summer camp. Thank you for creating a great program for my kids. It has been and continues to be a blessing.

Barbara

Being a part of a group that cares enough to have a financial assistance program says a lot about a place. At the time I was new to Indiana and this was a great place to make new friends, get healthy, and introduce my girls to new social environments.

What are some challenges this organization faces?

Like any nonprofit, we face challenges. Keeping our programs affordable while maintaining our facilities and hiring quality staff takes a lot of resources. We are constantly fundraising to make sure no one is turned away. As community needs change, we have to stay flexible by creating new programs, offering scholarships, and finding ways to do more with what we have. The pandemic really tested us, but it also showed how strong and committed our staff and members are.

How has Operation Round Up impacted the organization?

That support from Operation Roundup has helped us provide financial assistance and resources for programs that might not exist otherwise. It is a great example of how small acts of generosity can create a big impact.

How can people in our community get involved?

There are many ways people can get involved with the YMCA. You can become a member, volunteer, donate, or help spread the word about what we do. Local businesses can partner with us through sponsorships on community events like the Good Friday Breakfast, and families can take part in programs that strengthen both body and spirit. No matter how someone chooses to get involved, it all helps us continue our mission of building a stronger, healthier, and more connected community.
