John H. Anglin Scholarship – Natalie Linnemeier

John H. Anglin Scholarship

Every year, Kosciusko REMC awards ten $1,000 scholarships to go towards the recipient’s chosen institution of higher education for the upcoming school year. Concern for Community is one of KREMC’s core principles, and investing in our local college students is one way we do this every year. Read on to see how this scholarship has impacted one of our recipients, Natalie Linnemeier.

Can you introduce yourself and where you are attending school?

My name is Natalie Linnemeier. I am a senior attending the University of Saint Francis.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your educational journey?

I am in the Education program in hopes to teach middle school English or math after graduation. I have always loved making a difference on kids’ lives and what better place to do so than in the classroom. In my free time I coach a middle school basketball team in late fall through the winter. I am also coaching for Concordia High Schools’ girls flag football team. I play piano and guitar and give lessons every Tuesday. This year, I have a placement in a fourth-grade classroom where I will also be student teaching in the spring. I am also an active substitute teacher in the NACS district.

How did you hear about the scholarship program?

I originally heard of this scholarship through social media. I follow Questa on Instagram and they repost scholarship opportunities which is how I found out about this one.

How did receiving this scholarship make a difference in your educational path?

With FAFSA cuts this year, I was unsure of what my tuition would look like. However, with the help of this scholarship, it helps lessen the financial burden that college tuition has and allows me to focus more on my schoolwork rather than how to come up with the additional money for tuition.

What are some key things you have achieved during your time as a student?

I have been on the Dean’s list for the past three years. I have also received awards such as “Outstanding Performance in the Field,” “Outstanding Academic Performance,” “Outstanding Leadership,” and “Outstanding Peer Support.” I was also selected as a representative on the panel at USF for the Division of Education. Apart from USF achievements, I have led my middle school basketball team that I coach to 1st in our holiday tournament, 2nd in our conference, and three years of a winning record.

How did it feel to be selected as a scholarship recipient?

It is an honor to be selected for this scholarship. Everything helps towards college tuition. I am thankful for the opportunity to be one of the John H Anglin Scholarship Recipients.

What advice would you give to someone interested in applying for the scholarship next year?

Be involved. Stay on top of your grades. Do something impactful with your time. And just be true to yourself. Don’t feel like you have to be a part of every club or every community service or have a 4.0 to apply. Yes, those things are appealing and important. Yet scholarship committees want to see who you are and what kind of impact you are making and the passion you hold.

What are your career goals moving forward?

I will graduate this May. I plan to get a job in the upper elementary or middle school area. I plan to continue coaching basketball and flag football as well as teaching music lessons. I want to go to Grad school for a master’s in administration in hopes to one day become a principal. All around, I hope to continue to touch the lives of students or athletes that I have the privilege to be around.
